Air Serbia’s New Niš–Vienna and Niš–Malta Flights: Which Route Fits Your Trip?
Updated October 30, 2026. Air Serbia says it launched nonstop flights from Niš in southern Serbia to Vienna, Austria, and Malta on October 25, 2026. Both routes are scheduled twice weekly, on Wednesdays and Sundays. That is a meaningful new option for travelers in southern Serbia, but a two-day-a-week timetable also makes the choice of travel dates unusually important.
What has actually started?
In its October 25 announcement, the airline said both services had commenced from Niš Constantine the Great Airport. This is an airline-confirmed launch, not an independent claim that seats are available on every future departure. Specific departure times, fares, aircraft, and ticket inventory must be checked for the travel date you want.
Niš–Vienna: scheduled on Wednesdays and Sundays. Useful for city breaks, business travel, and visits to family or friends in Austria.
Niš–Malta: also scheduled on Wednesdays and Sundays. Useful for Mediterranean holidays, heritage-focused trips, and visits to people living in Malta.

Vienna or Malta: how to choose
Choose Vienna if the main purpose is a short urban stay, museums, historic architecture, business meetings or family visits. The city has a dense urban transit network, so travelers may not need a rental car. If your plans involve onward rail journeys, compare the actual airport-to-station transfer and train timetable before buying a separate ticket.
Choose Malta for a Mediterranean island itinerary, coastal towns, Valletta’s historic center or a longer holiday. Island travel can involve buses, ferries, taxis or a rental vehicle depending on where you stay. Do not assume that a hotel near a beach will also be convenient for a late-night flight or sightseeing across the island.
The destinations are not interchangeable. Vienna is a city-and-rail trip; Malta is more often a multi-location island trip. Compare total transport time and lodging location, not just the airfare shown in a search result.
Why the twice-weekly schedule changes trip planning
Wednesday and Sunday departures can fit a Wednesday-to-Sunday four-night stay or a Sunday-to-Wednesday three-night stay, if the airline offers compatible return flights on the dates selected. They are less flexible for a two-night weekend or an urgent trip. Check the outbound and return legs separately; do not infer a round-trip itinerary from a one-way schedule announcement.
Before booking, compare an itinerary from Niš with an alternative departure from Belgrade or another accessible airport. Include the journey to the airport, parking or transfers, baggage allowances, layovers if applicable, and the cost of an extra hotel night caused by the flight pattern. The best airport depends on where you start and your actual dates.
Five checks before paying
Confirm that the flight appears on the airline’s current schedule for both travel dates.
Read the fare conditions, including carry-on and checked baggage, changes, refunds and any payment fees.
Check passport and entry requirements based on your nationality and travel-document status; a route launch does not change visa rules.
Allow enough time to reach Niš airport, and verify transport at your arrival airport.
For connections or onward tickets booked separately, allow for missed-connection risk rather than assuming one airline will protect the whole journey.

What we verified — and what we did not
The launch date, two destinations and Wednesday/Sunday frequency come from the airline’s dated announcements. We have not independently verified seat availability, current prices, aircraft types or a particular flight’s punctuality. The airline’s announcement is a primary source for its schedule, not an independent review of its service.
