Seattle–Osaka and Seattle–Tahiti Flights for 2027: How to Plan Both Trips
Two new nonstop flight routes are set to change how travelers leave Seattle in 2027. Alaska Air Group says Hawaiian Airlines will connect Seattle–Tacoma International Airport (SEA) with Osaka, Japan (KIX) beginning May 14, 2027 , and with Papeete, Tahiti (PPT) beginning June 11, 2027 . The decision for travelers is not simply which new route has the better promotion: it is whether they want a Japan city-and-rail journey or a South Pacific island trip, and how much the full journey will actually cost.
OptionTrip editorial briefing · October 27, 2026. These are announced future flights, not completed or guaranteed services. The carrier says all new routes are subject to government approval and schedule changes. Fares and hotel availability are not live quotes in this article.
New Seattle flights: launch dates, destinations and schedules
The Port of Seattle’s October 20 statement gives the announced SEA–KIX departure as 12:10 p.m. and arrival at 4 p.m. the following day, and the SEA–PPT departure as 11:55 p.m. and arrival at 7:20 a.m. the next day. All times are local and the schedules are subject to change; verify the dates, airport codes and actual operating itinerary with the airline before paying.
Alaska’s official October 20 release states that tickets are on sale. The carrier advertised a limited introductory sale ending October 26, 2026 . That promotional deadline has already passed as of this article’s October 27 review. Do not assume the launch-sale price is still available. Search current airline and supplier inventory rather than relying on an expired fare headline.
Choose Osaka when your trip is about Japan’s Kansai region
Osaka is a useful destination for people who want a city base and excursions to other major Kansai attractions. You can plan several days around food markets, neighborhoods and city sightseeing, then decide whether to add Kyoto or Nara by rail. The new service would land at Kansai International Airport (KIX) , which is not the same as Osaka’s closer-in Itami airport (ITM). For a late arrival, compare the onward train or bus service and last departures before choosing a refundable hotel.
Sample five-night approach: allow a realistic arrival day, two days based in Osaka, one day in Kyoto, one in Nara or Kobe and a flexible departure day. Check actual travel times, current train schedules, entry conditions and local closure notices before setting a detailed itinerary. For a short visit, a centrally located base can be easier than changing hotels repeatedly.
The total cost of a Japan trip includes more than airfare: accommodation, rail tickets, local transport, sightseeing admission, meals and possible luggage forwarding or airport transfers. A slightly less expensive hotel on the wrong side of the city can erase its advantage through transfers.
Choose Tahiti when the islands are the main event
Papeete is on Tahiti, French Polynesia; an arrival at PPT does not mean you are already at a hotel on Bora Bora or Moorea. A South Pacific holiday may require a separate domestic flight or ferry, another airport transfer and different accommodation budgets. Compare each connection separately, including baggage limits and protection if the inbound flight changes.
Sample seven-night approach: start by deciding whether to base yourself on Tahiti for all seven nights or combine Tahiti with one other island. An additional island can be memorable, but extra transport can consume a large part of a short holiday. If your international flight arrives early in the morning, ask the hotel whether early check-in is possible; it is not automatic. Allow a reasonable buffer before international departure and do not assume a same-day inter-island connection is protected.
Both new routes are scheduled on Hawaiian’s A330-200 fleet, but confirm the specific cabin, seat design and fare conditions before buying. “Business class” or “premium” labels do not settle aircraft, refund or seat details. For travelers departing beyond Seattle, assess the risk of connecting to SEA on a separate ticket.
How to compare the two routes and avoid an expensive booking mistake
Check eligibility first. Japanese and French Polynesian entry rules may differ based on nationality, transit route and length of stay. Use official immigration resources for your own passport, not another traveler’s advice.
Compare complete dates and flight days. Four Osaka flights weekly and three Papeete flights weekly do not give the same date flexibility as daily service. A missed connection may be more disruptive.
Check the arrival clock. Crossing the International Date Line means the arrival may be marked the following day, affecting the first hotel night.
Calculate the accommodation total. Compare cancellation windows, fees, occupancy limits and onward transfers. A city hotel in Seattle is a different product from an island resort.
Never mistake an advertised launch fare for a live quote. The new routes were announced with a limited offer that ended October 26. Recheck current inventory and exact booking conditions before payment.
Staying in Seattle before your international flight?
If your route involves arriving in Seattle a day early, compare the cost of one hotel night with the risk of a same-day self-transfer. A short city visit might include the Space Needle or Seattle Aquarium. The official Seattle CityPASS comparison distinguishes a three-attraction Seattle C3 pass from the five-attraction Seattle CityPASS product; check which attractions and reservations are included. A pass is only useful if you have enough time and actually intend to visit the included sights.
