Yosemite’s Tioga and Glacier Point Roads Are Closed by Snow: What Travelers Should Check
YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, California — Travelers planning an early-November visit should not assume they can cross Yosemite on Tioga Road or drive to Glacier Point. The National Park Service listed both roads as temporarily closed because of snow after conditions changed on October 29, 2026.
The closure does not mean all of Yosemite National Park is closed. Yosemite Valley roads, Wawona Road and El Portal Road remained open in the park’s latest conditions report, while Big Oak Flat Road was open with possible weekday delays. Conditions can change again with little notice.
What the closure changes
Tioga Road is the continuation of Highway 120 through the high country. When it is closed, drivers cannot use it as an east–west crossing through the park. A trip between Yosemite Valley and communities east of the Sierra may require a long detour, depending on which seasonal passes remain open.
Glacier Point Road provides vehicle access toward Glacier Point and nearby trailheads. A temporary snow closure can affect sightseeing plans even when lower-elevation areas of the park remain accessible.
Check conditions before leaving
Call Yosemite’s recorded road-conditions line at 209-372-0200 , then press 1 and 1.
Review the park’s official current conditions page on the day of travel.
Do not rely on a route saved earlier in a navigation app; seasonal gates and snow closures may not appear immediately.
Carry warm clothing, water and enough fuel for a possible detour.
Check California chain-control information if winter weather is forecast.
The National Park Service also states that overnight parking is not allowed along Tioga Road or Glacier Point Road, including parking lots reachable from those roads. Hetch Hetchy Road may close when it is snowing or when snow is forecast overnight.
Plan the trip around verified access
Before booking a hotel or committing to a long drive, build the itinerary around the entrances and roads that are actually open. Travelers can use OptionTrip and Vi to organize a flexible route, but road status should always be confirmed directly with the National Park Service.
